THEY GAVE A HELPING HAND
The Northwest Enterprise appreciates the efforts of the Savoy Community Center headed by Messrs. Honeysuckle and McCants in the gift of $100 to the Red Cross, the result of a benefit dance. We also appreciate the added contributions of business and professional men. We know there were many others who would gladly have done as much had In urging any contributions to the Red Cross, we certainly make no brief for their discriminatory blood bank service. No dying man gives a damn where the blood comes from if it but saves his life.
We give because a higher duty impels us to acknowledge no organization in the world does so They Gave Helping Hand (Continued from page 1) much good as The World's Greatest Mother.
There is nothing the matter with the Red Cross. If a poll were taken tomorrow the smear would be blotted out. Some impious foot has invaded the sanctuary of mercy.
Nor is there anything the matter with Old Glory she waves for you and me as freely as she does for any other American. And yet treasonable hands have so smeared it that Old Glory itself needs an immersion.
No man has ever dared to add or detract one word from the Ten Commandments. They were given by God himself. Everyone is broken every day of the week and Sunday too.
Nothing is perfect save a Mother.
Patriotism and the love of the finest country in the great wide world actuates our Red Cross gifts and bond buying. Gentlemen: you did well. We wish it had been more. Your pattern was perfect.
No finer example of patriotism has ever been seen in America than that of Joe Louis who bared his title worth more than a million dollars - a gift to the U. S. Navy which would never permit him to rise above a common messman.
