FARMERS' ALLIANCE.
ALLIANCE NOTES.
—Let the good work of forming people's party clubs be pushed forward.
—The plutes are ready—always ready; would to heaven the same could be said of the people.
—The irrepressible conflict is at hand. Where will you be found, with plutocracy or the people?
—Gov. Pennoyer, of Oregon, has come out for the people's party and is traveling through the state making speeches on the financial questions.
—Thirty thousand American plutocrats leading around 63,000,000 American citizens by the nose is a spectacle for gods and men. —Pittsburgh Kansan.
—Every millionaire is the result of iniquitous legislation, of a failure of the government to protect labor. What an immense amount of iniquity the republic-democratic management has to answer for!—National Advance.
—The union of the west and south is gradually and certainly moving forward to consummation; and when united and determined upon the same course, the date of their redemption from the eastern shylock will be safely fixed.—Montgomery (Ala.) Alliance Herald.
—If the city had not deliberately given away its franchises to the street car, the electric light and the water works companies, no tax at all would be required to support the municipal government, as the profits which now go into the pockets of a few men would pay all city expenses.—Topeka (Kan.) Populist.
—When you read your paper lend it, and let it do double duty. If your neighbor belongs to the people's party he may become a subscriber and thus help us. If he belongs to one of the old parties he may become a convert and help boom the people's party. If everybody will lend their paper they can help us and help the people's party.
—The question that should most concern the people is not the tariff, silver, or whether republicans, democrats or another party shall control the administration of public affairs, but what shall we do to "establish justice, promote the public welfare and secure the blessings of life, liberty and happiness" to ourselves and our posterity.—National Advance.
—The rightful reward of each individual's labor is the product of that labor, less the amount necessary to maintain the social organism of which he is the product. The formula should read thus: Each individual has the right to the full product of his labor as against any other individual; but not as against society of which he himself is a member.
—Step out of the doubtful columns into the people's ranks. That is the proper place of every true patriot. The welfare of your country, home and family depend upon the success of the people's movement. It needs and should have your active support and influence now. Do your duty and aid it by sharing the responsibility of the crusade against organized greed and hypocrisy.—Brevier (Mo.) Appeal
—The north has grown impatient with what is called southern tardiness in this reform movement. We hope a great rivalry will spring up. Let the place where Mason's and Dixon's line once was be the division mark; let those on the north strive bitterly against those on the south and vice versa, but let the struggle be to see which section will poll the most people's party votes. Our money goes on the south, Nashville (Tenn.) Weekly Toiler.
—The corruption fund of the old parties will be unlimited this year, but one patriot, with the love of country and liberty burning in his bosom, is more than a match for a brigade. Look at your wife and children, think of what the future will bring them unless a change is made, then you will be prepared to do or die in the cause of liberty. Hired scoundrels can never compete with men determined to be free. Boys, we must win this fight.—Pueblo (Col.) Coming Crisis.
—Looking forward to the possibility that Harrison may fail to secure the nomination at Minneapolis, the Globe-Democrat suggests the name of John Sherman as a capable leader for the republicans. The G.-D. is right. No man in the republican party is so eminently qualified as a leader for that party as John Sherman. He has not only led his party, but the whole country to the verge of bankruptcy and ruin by his infamous financial policy, which will damn his name and his party while time lasts. To elect John Sherman president of the United States would be the crowning act in the great conspiracy begun in 1861 by the English money power, and would, if his election was possible, be the end of American liberty.
