Carpenter's General Store and Huey's Drug Store Burned.
BATH, Jan. 17.—[Special]—At 11:25 o'clock last evening a fire broke out in J. B. Carpenter's store. It had gained considerable headway when discovered, and no one knows how it originated. The flames were soon communicated to the building adjoining, which was occupied by W. J. Huey as a drug store. The citizens turned out at once, and it was through their efforts that the fire was prevented from destroying the entire business portion of the town. J. B. Carpenter's store was a story and a-half high, and contained a stock of general merchandise valued at $10,000. The building was worth $2,000. Immediately back of the store was a warehouse filled with goods. An effort is being made to save this building. The drug store and contents were valued at $1,500. Part of the stock was saved. The building was owned by Carpenter and the stock by W. J. Huey.

1:30 a. m. The fire is still burning but the flames are under control. The warehouse was saved but was somewhat damaged by fire and water.
2:15 a. m. Carpenter had some insurance on his stock and buildings. He will rebuild. There was $200 insurance on the drug stock.
3:00 a. m. Carpenter places his loss on stock and buildings at $13,000, with about $5,000 insurance. The rooms over the drug store were occupied by Mr. Huey, who saved most of his household goods as well as part of his drug stock.
