Full Text

From the Green Mountain Democrat.

It is said the Monopolists will apply at the next session of the Legislature for a re-charter of the Banks of Bennington, Rutland, Danville, and Montpelier, and unquestionably a detestable system of log rolling will be attempted for the purpose of fastening upon the public these rag-shops and cut purse corporations. Bank Agents and Bank Directors will find a change has come over the people-instead of an easy compliance with their arrogant commands, they will meet with an inflexible opposition, a bitter and determined hostility. The fact that the Corporators in these Banks ask for a renewal of their charters some six or eight years in advance of their termination, is proof that they dare not await the progress of popular reform; the certain triumph of the Democracy.
