RIOT AT THE MINES. Revolvers and Threats Brought Men Out of the Mines-Promised Not to Return Except at Union Wages.
EVANSVILLE, Ind., January 20.-
There was a riot at the Hartwell mines, in Pike county, to-day. The miners from Aryshire, 160 strong, marched to Hartwell and demanded that the men sign the scale or quit work. At first the men refused to come out, but after revolvers were drawn and several shots were fired into the air, the diggers promised not to return to work again until the operators paid union wages.
