Newcastle, Dec 10.-The fight between Charles McKeever, the American pugilist, and Jack Palmer, at the local club last night, ended in a free fight. The men were matched to fight fifteen rounds for a purse of £150 and a side bet of £100. McKeever scaled 148 pounds. Palmer weighed 165 pounds. McKeever showed his superiority before the fight had progressed half a minute. He landed on the Briton at will, the latter being clearly outclassed. Palmer fouled the American continually, the referee giving no attention to the protests of McKeever's seconds. The American was buffeting Palmer all around the ring in the second round, when the crowd broke into the ring and a general fight ensued. The referee during the row announced the fight no contest. This so incensed the crowd fighting in the ring that they turned their attention to the referee, but the latter escaped through a door in the middle of the building and disappeared. It is the impression that McKeever was the victim of just such a plot as Kid Broad escaped when he came here to fight Jack Roberts.
