Extract of a letter from Venice, Feb. 10.
"Extraordinary meetings of Doge and Senate have been lately held on the subject of a proposition made by the Minister from his Imperial Majesty of Germany, relative to the exchange of certain territories belonging to that Sovereign in Italy, or upon the borders, for the island of Zante, which belongs to this republic. The Emperor has undoubtedly turned his views to the establishment of a naval commerce in such parts of his dominions as will admit of it; and the Imperial Eagle has been displayed in several parts of the Mediterranean and of the Archipelago; and should this exchange take place, as it is positively affirmed it will, there can be no doubt of the republic's reaping the most solid advantages from a union with so potent and enterprising a monarch."
We hear that Lord North is at this time so much indisposed by an infirmity in his eyes, that it is feared his Lordship will irrecoverably lose his sight.
