Editorial Sparring Match
The sparring match among the Litchfield county editors continues. No sooner is one contest ended than another couple vault into the arena. These little word duels are harmless, no blood is shed and both parties usually retire from the ring and shake hands. The Winsted Herald and the New Hartford Tribune have now put on the boxing gloves and Father Vail is teaching his former pupil how to spar. His student is a ready learner and evidently able to parry the blows and often gives one in return. If you investigate this little quarrel you will find it similar to many others, viz: There is "a woman in the case." It all grows out of the "Barkhamsted Reminiscences," which were commenced in the Tribune, then withdrawn and given to the Herald. Gentlemen, the dinner bell has rung; stop your sparring, put on your coats and adjourn to the banquet hall; there you can settle your quarrel the same as the cook does your coffee—by breaking an egg in it.
