Full Text

WILKESBARRE, PA. JULY 2.

An unfortunate occurrence took place in the township of Nicholson, on Saturday last. A young man, by the name of Andrew Steel, was descending the Tankhannoc Creek in a canoe, in pursuit of deer; it being dusk, and objects not clearly discernable, a neighbor on the shore supposing it a deer, fired upon, and wounded him dangerously, some say mortally. This is another instance of those evils which arise from the too careless use of fire arms. What must be the feelings of him who, instead of the favorite game, finds he has brought to an untimely end a fellow citizen.
