LYING is the method the federalists have adopted to create confusion and disaffection to the laws among the people. No sooner is one lie refuted, than they have half a dozen more ready coined to crowd upon their readers. They however, take good care not to encumber their paper with the refutation of their falsehoods.—The following paragraph is from the New York Evening Post of the 12th ult.
"We have received information, (says the Albany Crisis, on which we may rely, that '300 families in the single town of Salem, Massachusetts, in addition to the usual number of paupers, are reduced to the necessity of relying on private charity for subsistence—Indeed, indeed, (to use the language of the Register) THE EMBARGO TELLS!"
This "information" is no doubt as correct as two thirds of the stories on which federalists "rely." But we do not know nor have we heard on enquiry, of a single family in Salem which have been reduced by the embargo "to the necessity of relying on private charity for subsistence."
