Inscription House
Chapter Meeting

The Inscription House Chapter meeting was held on October 7th, 1961. In attendance was Albert H. Harvey, Community Worker from the Tuba City Area. The meeting came to order at 12:40 p.m.

The introductory remarks were made by the Chapter President, Mr. Rose Tsosie, and regarded the agenda for the meeting. Mr. Tsosie said "We think that at meetings all the local people have a part.
Whether it is a baby born last night, or a man dying from old age, we all have a part in our local affairs.
Let me say that we need your cooperation and attention at all times.
Your ideas, suggestions, and plans are needed by all. It is for the welfare of all of us to do something for ourselves. Today we will hear reports made by Mr. Harvey, from Tuba City, and by Paul Begay, who will report on the 5 day livestock meeting held at Window Rock," Mr. Tsosie continued, "Some of you have just come here to get paid for your work on projects, and you will eventually get paid. Now I will point out some of the things that need our attention." Mr. Tsosie remarked that he has only 1 more year to serve the people of that area, and that he had been following the plans of the people.

Discussion of the needs of the repair of the Chapter House came under talk.
Preparation for the harvest period was discussed. Many of the people will be going to work outside the reservation and have made no preparation for taking care of their own place.

Paul Begay reported on the recent Livestock meeting held at the Council Chambers at Window Rock.
Mr. Begay explained that the meeting was to settle problems confronting the Grazing Committee Members and the Handbook for Sheep Grazing Regulations.

Mr. Billy Goodman, Councilman from the area reported. Mr. Goodman said, "It is true that many areas are overgrazed on the reservation. We have just had an emergency session in Window Rock concerning the possibility of increasing your livestock dollar. We approved some 500,000 dollars."
