Joe Felder, the well known old timer and Solomon freighter, arrived in town the early part of the week with his horse teams and on the return trip will take back coal and supplies for horse feed.
He was caught in a blizzard en route and had to lay over a day at the Cape Nome Roadhouse. The trail from there to Nome was covered deep with snow and Joe had one beaut of a time to make it, but then Joe always gets through.
Joe has been engaged this winter in freighting machinery to Council City from Solomon for the Northern Light Dredging Co., but his last trip was the most strenuous of the year, taking him six days, where under ordinary conditions the trip would have been made in half the time. He was compelled to break trail thru deep snow, double trip it, and on top of that his team broke through the ice and to get them out required all his skill and ability, working as he was in a blinding blizzard he finally got his horses out and after well blanketing them, he was forced to spend the night camping out, and to appreciate the pleasure of a trip of this kind, one must go through it.
After resting up his stock and himself he expects to leave for Solomon today.
Billy Langley who accompanied Felder to Nome from Solomon, has been busy freighting the new dredge of the Goldsmith Dredging Co., from Solomon landing to the head of Solomon river. He will also return today with a load of supplies.
