Featuring five sessions designed to cover various problems in fisheries, the eighth annual Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute is scheduled to get under way at the Empress Hotel, Miami Beach, Oct. 31, and will continue through Nov. 4. The institute is sponsored by the Marine Laboratory of the University of Miami in cooperation with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Southeastern Fisheries Association, and the Shrimp Association of the Americas.
Gov. LeRoy Collins has been invited by The Marine Laboratory to give the opening address and has indicated that he will do so if possible. The address of welcome to members of the fisheries industry and scientists attending the institute will be made by Dr. F. G. Walton Smith, Laboratory Director. In charge of arrangements is Dr. Clare P. Idyll, Executive Secretary of the Institute.
The Gulf and Caribbean Institute is designed to bring together fisheries scientists and members of the industry to discuss latest news and developments in fisheries. The five sessions will be devoted to industry, technology, economics, biology and general Caribbean fisheries.
