The New Orleans Delta has a very bitter article on the Administration for its interference with the movements of Gen. William Walker. It says that the arrest of Walker "was surprising to some of the parties who had received personal assurance from Mr. Buchanan and members of his Cabinet, that the Federal Government would interpose no obstacles to Walker's return to Nicaragua, with or without an escort." In another place the Delta says that "assurances were tendered by the President and Cabinet, to Gen. Walker that he would not be molested should he propose to return."
