Full Text

Letters from Landshut, a considerable city in Lower Bavaria, mention the establishment there of a kind of inquisition, which, in this age of universal toleration, may be looked upon as a phenomenon. The Commissary appointed by that bloody tribunal, not only ransack the houses in search of immoral books, but summon before them, and punish in an arbitrary manner, every one whom they suspect of holding any opinions contrary to the established religion. It is devoutly to be wished that so tedious a monster may be crushed in its very cradle.
