From a Correspondent.
The unanimous vote of this legislature to appoint a committee to bring in a bill for incorporating the city, has given great pleasure to all classes of people. Happy state of Pennsylvania! the age of ignorance is over. Our citizens are no more governed by words nor sounds. By means of a city-government, order will be maintained, just laws will be executed, a stop will be put to the practice of trading in justice. Wheel-barrow-men will no more keep our city in awe, our streets will be kept free of nuisances—and in consequence of all these agreeable events, the new Congress will probably fix their temporary residence among us.
A correspondent congratulates the friends of the drama, on the pleasing prospect which now opens upon them—a prospect of shortly seeing (by means of the present enlightened, patriotic and federal assembly) every impediment removed which has hitherto interrupted theatrical exhibitions in this city.
