A Foot of Solid Blue Carbonates Struck 800 Feet from the Original Discovery.
The Keystone mentioned on Wednesday morning that a fine discovery had been made by disinterested persons on the Independence ground, belonging to David Teachnor and located just below the Pride of Idaho on the East Fork of Wood River. Last evening Mr. Teachnor himself came to town with the good news that he had a fine ore body of blue carbonates, a solid vein fully a foot in width, and the writer was shown an assay certificate from J. J. Taylor giving the value of ore at from 50 to 65 ozs. silver per ton. It runs about 70 per cent. in lead. The new strike was made two weeks since on Independence ground, 800 feet from the original discovery, and within 25 feet of the side line. The discoverers at first supposing it to be on open land, were very jubilant, but upon the production of Mr. Teachnor's location papers, which read, "1500 feet east and west." instead of "in the course of the ledge," they acknowledged his right and made no further claim. These parties were permitted to strip the ledge with a view to following over the Independence side line, but soon discovered that it pitched further into the Independence location and gave up the work. In two hours work Thursday. Mr. Teachnor took twelve sacks from the vein and left it uncovered about six feet by four feet deep, looking fine. This ore is low grade, but will net the owner $40 per ton. It exists in sufficient quantities to be very profitable.
