The French substitute of a divorce, to-wit: a legal separation, has just been granted by the Tribunal Civil de la Seine against Mme. Santerre, the very pretty wife of a great-grand-son of the celebrated Terrorist. Mme. Santerre is the daughter of a former Compiegne, and used to be one of the most admired beauties at the famous receptions there under the empire. The chief charge against her was connected with an adventure at the Cafe d'Orsay, which made no little stir in Parisian society some months ago. The lady had the honor of breakfasting with a very distinguished visitor from the Low Countries, when her husband, who had not been invited, put in an uncalled-for appearance and wanted to be shown upstairs. The proprietor of the cafe declined to comply with the request, and M. Santerre proceeded at once to the nearest police-station for the purpose of obtaining legal help. Meanwhile Mme. Santerre, hurriedly disguised in the garb of a kitchen-boy, was able to effect her escape through a back door, and when the force arrived on the premises the distinguished visitor was found breakfasting alone.
