Physician Named As Beneficiary Is Held As Officers Probe.
BENTONVILLE, Ark., April 1. (P) - Dr. A. J. Bass of Columbia, Mo., who identified the body of a man found slain near Gravette Saturday as William Flota, was arrested today on a first degree murder charge. Officers said they had learned Bass was beneficiary in life insurance policies of $200,000 carried by a man named Flota.
They said they had uncovered a conspiracy to defraud insurance companies and that more arrests are expected.
The body, with three bullet holes in the head, was found on a highway near Gravette Saturday. Bass said he had known the man since last fall and that Flota was a wealthy land speculator.
Mrs. Mary Flota, Martinsburg, Mo., and two sons and a daughter who came here, denied the body was that of a son and brother. They said they had not seen Flota for 17 years, but that the slain man had no resemblance to Flota.
