Safe crackers entered the Presley Chevrolet Company in Pickens early last Saturday morning and made off with about $500 in cash and checks.
Chief Deputy Sheriff, Andrew P. Smith, who investigated the crime said most of the checks were recovered Saturday on a gravel road south of Pickens where they had been thrown by the safe crackers.
Other items missing besides the money and checks were six transistor radios and a power saw.
The theft was discovered by employees Saturday morning.
The Holmes officer said the front of the safe had been peeled to gain entry.
The Sheriff said his office is checking several leads.
