Full Text

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 5.

Wednesday morning about eight o'clock, a fire broke out in a cooper's shop on Walnut-street wharf, which soon communicated to two frame buildings adjoining, and notwithstanding the exertions of the inhabitants, the whole were soon burnt to the ground, whereby a very considerable loss is sustained. The adjoining stores of Messrs. Campbell and Kington were with difficulty preserved, the cornice having twice caught fire; but plenty of water being at hand, those valuable buildings were happily saved from the danger which threatened them—it is said that the fire caught, while the workmen were at breakfast.
