SENATOR MEALEY NOT IN FAVOR OF THE DRIVE
WELL TAX.

To the Editor of the Globe.

MONTICELLO, Feb. 22.—Up to the present
your reports of the Senate proceedings have
not only been full, but very accurate. An ex-
ception to this rule, however, occurred in the
report of the discussion on the "drive well"
appropriation on Friday, where you say
"Senator Mealey was willing to be taxed to
fight the case, though he had no drive well."
This was not my position. I was not then,
am not now, nor ever will be willing to be
taxed myself, or have others taxed for this
purpose. And yet I have a drive well. Please
make the correction. Respectfully yours,
T. G. MEALEY.
