SOUTH CAROLINIANS CELEBRATE
THE DOWNFALL OF BLEASEISM
With an outburst of enthusiasm South Carolinians summering in Hendersonville celebrated on Thursday night the downfall of Bleaseism.
The celebration was to have been Wednesday night, but the rain prevented. On Thursday night shortly after dusk the visitors gathered on Main street until a crowd estimated at between one and two thousand was in front of the First Bank and Trust company, where W. D. Bryan of Williamsburg county, instigator of the demonstration, and president of the local Palmetto club, explained the purpose of the meeting, which was the overthrow of Bleaseism. He was followed by the Rev. J. F. Anderson of McCormick, Dr. W. C. Black and the Rev. W. L. Boggs of Granville and Mr. Cone of White Springs, Fla., all of whom expressed great jubilation over the victory of Senator Smith.
A procession was formed with Mr. Anderson and Mr. Boggs bearing a large banner with the name of Senator Smith, who defeated Governor Blease, followed by a brass band and about 100 persons bearing torches.
The celebration lasted for about an hour.
