West Palm Beach - Industries seeking plant locations in Florida first inspect a community's fire record before proceeding with their inquiries, according to State Treasurer - Fire Marshal J. Edwin Larson.
"A city's determined effort to get more industrial payrolls, therefore," the official declared, "may hinge on its fire record, and on the measures it takes to prevent fires."
Larson will conduct his department's seventh annual fire prevention conference here on Nov. 7 and 8. Fire fighting officials and civic leaders from all parts of the state will report to the conference on how well they are able to "follow through" on what their constant inspections turn up, in the way of new equipment procurement and expansion of fire control boundary lines.
"The insurance rate to which a community is entitled by its perseverance in preventing fires, and ability to control them," Larson concluded, "is an economic factor of first consideration to industrialists, and ought to be to home owners."
