CAUX, Switzerland.-A Southern
Congressman's daughter and a Negro
educational leader addressed the
Moral Re-Armament World Assembly
from the same platform here
this week.
"The most forceful virtue of Moral
Re-Armament is in its power to
resolve inter-racial antagonisms,"
said Richard Brown, Professor of
Mathematics at Bluefield State College,
West Virginia. "Never before
have I found white people with
whom I could associate on the basis
of equality." Professor Brown referred to the Supreme Court's recent abolition of
segregation in
schools as "one of the greatest decisions in the history of the Court.
What we need
are
men who are
guided by God to administer the
law," he added.
RECENT VISIT
Professor Brown said that through MRA he had met white people without race prejudice. Re-counting his recent visit to a prominent white Southerner's home, he said that was but one of the many "evidences of MRA breaking down racial barriers. No force other than Moral Re-Armament can bring the kind of moral and spiritual revolution needed in America."
Miss Carol Deane, daughter of Congressman Charles B. Deane of North Carolina, followed Professor and Mrs. Brown on the platform.
"As a Southerner I was brought up with racial superiority and I see what that has cost. Not only do I want to apologize for my superiority but I pledge myself to fight with Professor and Mrs. Brown that America finds that ideology of Moral Re-Armament before it is too late."
SEEKING GUIDANCE
Miss Deane told of her father's victory by over 20,000 votes in the North Carolina Democratic primary May 29th. "This is the second campaign my father has conducted on the basis of absolute honesty, seeking the guidance of God in all his decisions," she said.
"Two years
ago my father had guidance to
apologize to his former political opponent for the resentment he had
held." Later, she said, after her father spoke about MRA at a political rally, this man returned the apology and in the recent campaign
had been one of the Congressman's
staunchest supporters.
