Full Text
Pirates,--Captain Terrell of the schr. Dandy arrived at this port yesterday in seven days from Matanzas, reports that Matanzas was full of pirates, who spoke openly of taking the Dandy at all hazards, her being exactly adapted to their purposes. This avowal deterred several merchants from shipping in her. Two boats, large and full of desperadoes, left the harbor a few evenings before the Dandy sailed, in order to intercept her when she came out. This was done to the knowledge of a number of persons on shore. The boats were seen crossing the bay from time to time, watching the movements of the Dandy; at length they formed and avowed their intention of cutting her out of port. Capt. T. had no alternative but to take advantage of the strong breeze during the night, and escaped out of port without seeing the boats.
