SHERMAN NOT IN IT
Has No Desire to Go to the Senate Now.

IS SALISBURY ADHERENT
Wouldn't Cut In Unless Orange Withdrew.

A well grounded rumor gained currency in political circles yesterday to the effect that Hoyt Sherman, state senator-elect was a candidate for United States senator. It was stated that while he was in the east on his latest trip Mr. Sherman consulted with men high in the councils of the Republican party who assured him that they would further his interests in every possible way.

It was pointed out that with his family connections Mr. Sherman would wield a greater influence in national affairs than any other man who could be elected. His long residence in Utah and his interest in the welfare of the state were cited as reasons why he was entitled to the position, and within a few hours quite a little Sherman boom was launched.

Not a Candidate.

It was Mr. Sherman himself who punctured the bubble. "If I said I had not heard that some of my friends were interesting themselves in my behalf," said he, "it would be an untruth. I have heard the story, but no legislator has been approached and asked to support me without my consent. I have given no one authority to use my name in connection with the senatorship, and I do not propose to do so.

"I am much interested in the success of one of my friends. Unless he should absolutely withdraw I would not become a candidate and even if he did quit the race I am not at all certain that I would get into it. The honor is a very high one, but I do not want it just now. Business and other interests would prevent me from getting into the fight even if I had the desire."

Mr. Sherman will, it is reported, cast his vote for O. J. Salisbury. He and Mr. Salisbury are warm friends, and the story goes that Mr. Sherman will be Mr. Salisbury's manager in the legislature, while Arthur Pratt and James Devine look after the outside work.
