VANDALS BURN FLORIDA HOME OF BISHOP TOOKES

PENSACOLA, Fla., May 3 -(ANP)--A fire of undetermined origin last Thursday night destroyed the beautiful, newly built home of Bishop Henry Tookes, who recently was transferred to the Florida A. M. E. diocese following the auto death of the late Bishop Grant.

Planned as the permanent home of Bishop and Mrs. Tookes and their family, the home was one of the show places of the city, and they had planned to move in this week. The house was reportedly guarded at night by a white watchman employed by the contractor. It was reported that when the fire started. the odor of burning oil was detected. and police and fire officials were said to be investigating this angle. Bishop and Mrs. Tookes have a daughter who is teaching in Oklahoma, and a son-in-law studying for his master's degree at Chicago university.
