Full Text

Moral Heroism. Sir Edward Codrington, the gallant victor in the battle of Navarino, was recently challenged to a duel. Instead of accepting of it, the brave Admiral applied to the King's Bench, and obtained a criminal information against the challenger who was sentenced to pay a fine of £100, one month imprisonment, and find security for good behavior. In delivering this judgment the learned judge made some admirable observations, and paid a high compliment to the prosecutor. He observed:—" This court cannot help entertaining feelings of gratitude to Sir Edward Codrington, who, on this occasion, has shown high moral courage, by preferring an appeal to the laws of his country, to that appeal which you wished to promote."—N. Y. Com. Adv.
