LONDON, March 6.

A report prevails in Paris, that a treaty of marriage is proposed between the King's daughter, aged ten, and the Duke d'Angouleme, eldest son of the Count d'Artois, who is near thirteen, this marriage is to be celebrated in three years.

Yesterday there was a meeting of the Commissioners appointed to put in execution the shop tax, at their room, at Guildhall, which was most numerously attended; they were specially summoned to this meeting for the purpose of considering of an application to the legislature for a repeal of that duty; when, after some observations on the peculiar hardships which the retail traders suffered under the execution of the Act, and which the office of the commissioners rendered them peculiarly acquainted with; it was moved by Mr. Sealy, and seconded by Mr. Powell, that a petition be presented to the House of Commons praying a repeal of the shop tax, and a committee was appointed to draw up the same, who returned with a draft, which was unanimously assented to.

The petition shortly states the inadequacy of the operation of the shop-tax, to the principles on which the legislature framed it, experience having proved it to be a house-tax, personally assessed on the retail trader alone, for which he can by no means indemnify himself, and praying relief.
