The Finance Board's Christmas Present to Its Employes.
Mr. Cleveland's Finance Board took another hand at salary raising at its meeting Monday night. An examination of the pay roll for December, read at Tuesday night's meeting, when warrants were ordered drawn for its payment shows that Clerk of the Finance Board William German's monthly salary had been raised from $150 to $166.66, or from $1,800 annually to $2,000. His assistant, Thomas McKeon's monthly salary was raised from $125 to $150, or annually from $1,500 to $1,800. Clerk Henry Poynton, of the City Collector's office, was given a raise from $75 monthly to $83.33, or yearly from $900 to $1,000. It is claimed that Poynton was appointed at a salary of $1,000 a year, but by some mistake he fell into the $900 a year column. The resolution ordering the payment contains nothing that indicates the raising of any of the salaries. The roll is merely prefaced with the resolution that "warrants be drawn for the payroll for December as follows."
I was refused admission to see the minute book until I had President Edelstein's sanction. Mr. Edelstein assured me that these were the only cases where salaries were raised.
