COMMUNICATION.
At the late election of town officers in Seekonk, the editors of the Phenix say, the republicans prevailed by nearly thirty majority! The facts are these: on the vote for Moderator, the number of votes necessary to make a choice was 158, the republican candidate had 161 votes; the federal candidates for Town Clerk and Town Treasurer were chosen without opposition: in the choice of the first Selectman, the republican candidate was declared chosen by one majority: on ascertaining the number of votes, on this occasion, the Moderator called on Elkanah French, Esq who conducted the famous town meeting in the town of Rehoboth, on the 18th of May, 1811, according to his own mind, and also on Mr. Noah Bowen, both democrats, to count and sort the votes! This was a procedure unprecedented in the town, and was not only insulting to federalists, but disgusting to many republicans. After witnessing this outrage upon common civility, it was thought useless to make further exertions.
If one or three make nearly thirty, then the Phenix editors are correct; otherwise they lie under a mistake.
