Sharp Correspondence.
A kind of a kilkenny cat fight has recently been kicked up among the Black Republican leaders at Columbus. Whilst they are simply horcling about "locofoco corruption," they are remarkably successful, not only at our National, but also at our State Capitol, in fastening corruption of the blackest dye upon the members and managers of the great reform party.
The following correspondence which recently passed between two of the leading Black Republican chiefs speaks for itself:
From Wm. Schouler, editor of the Ohio State Journal, to Hiram Griswold:
Journal Office, Feb 18, 1857.
Hon. Hiram Griswold—Sir: I understand that in the Republican caucus last evening, you stated in distinct terms that the Ohio State Journal had been bought by the canal contractors, and that the editor was also bought up, and that nothing could appear in that paper that the contractors did not agree should go in, or words to that effect.
Presuming that you would not state a deliberate falsehood, or wrong a man without just cause, I demand of you either a retraction of your calumny or a proof of your assertion.
Respectfully yours,
WM. SCHOULER
Editor of Ohio State Journal.
To which Hiram Griswold replies as follows:
Senate Chamber, Feb. 18. 1857.
William Schouler, Esq.—Sir: I have received and herewith return your letter just handed me. Whenever you will send one proper either for a gentleman to write or another to receive, you can be informed correctly as to what I did say in the Republican caucus last evening, in relation to the Ohio State Journal.
Yours, respectfully,
H. GRISWOLD.
After the receipt of the above, the Journal walks into the affections of Hiram with savage ferocity.
