Full Text
Sabbath Breaking.
It is a shameful fact, that to some of the people of our town, the Sabbath has no more sanctity than other days. One instance in particular. Instead of preparing for Sunday, we find many of them loitering Saturday evening and night around the stores, shops and railroad platform. Sunday morning, or it may be whilst services are in progress in the churches, we can hear the ring of the axe in various portions of the town. We suppose the persons thus lax in their Sabbath keeping are those who allow their rude boys, instead of sending them to Sabbath School, to roam the town the livelong day, playing, yelling, cursing etc. They are the same boys who crowd the platform at the arrival of every train, to everybody's discomfiture. Sabbath breaking is the sure precursor of ruin. It fills jails and penitentiaries and furnishes material for the horrors of the gallows. In fifteen years, hemp raising will be a good investment, if there is not a reformation in Jonesborough.
