President Coolidge apparently invented a classic political expression when he declared last Summer that he did not "choose to run for President in 1928." And now he has added another cryptic phrase that matches it pretty well. In reply to questioners as to what he would do after he left the White House he has replied, Vermontesque: "Well, for a year or two I am going to whittle."
Usually a man who whittles thinks pretty hard at the same time. Therefore it is likely that his countrymen will occasionally hear from Mr. Coolidge when he becomes an ex-President.
