TRAINING STATION RECEIVES SAFETY AWARD

At ceremonies in the Family Theatre Wednesday afternoon RADM Hewlett Thebaud, Commandant 1st ND presented the Secretary of the Navy's award for achievement in Safety to Captain W. V. Hamilton for the Training Station. This is the first time that the Newport Naval Training Station has received this presentation since the Sec Nav award was inaugurated in May 1947 to cover the year 1946.

The Safety Award was presented to four bureaus and 52 shore activities for their accomplishment in accident prevention in 1949. Recording remarkable performances, these activities helped the Navy to better its 1948 record and reach its lowest rate in frequency of lost-time accidents with a record of only 5.95 per million man-hours of work exposure in 1949.
