[Louisville Post.]
The ranks of this brigade are fast becoming decimated by the invincible enemy, Death, but the laurels of the men of the Orphan Brigade are deathless, and its heroic courage and its unparalleled bravery are part of the history of mankind, and these can never die.
Through exile, the hospital, death desolation and the most dreadful carnage of war, its ranks never broke and whenever called on, it never faltered in the discharge of every duty that a soldier was ever required to perform.
Kentucky has many sons of whom she can justly be proud. In all the wars that have arisen since her birth as a State her soldiers have won for her imperishable fame, but among her heroes none have ever taken higher rank or reflected more credit or glory upon her escutcheon than the men who followed Breckenridge at Stone River, or Lewis or Helm at Chickamauga, and who, through all the campaigns of the army of the Tennessee, always sought and always held the post of danger.
The men of this brigade will die—but the memory of their deeds is a part of the history of mankind, and will ever remain as one of the truest and brightest examples of human heroism and soldierly courage.
