The Sanford merchants used to buy their apples and cabbages at Baltimore. These articles are now shipped here from the Mount Airy and the Walnut Cove sections. Finer apples than those produced on the mountainsides above Mount Airy do not grow. These apples are immensely popular all along down the C. F. & Y. V. Railway—at Fayetteville, Red Springs, Maxton, Bennettsville and other points. Sometimes the express car is filled to overflowing with bags of chestnuts, crates of apples, cabbages and poultry. These articles are shipped to the eastern part of the State and often as far as Washington City.—Sanford Express.
