NAVY FIRING STARTS TODAY

SAN PEDRO, Cal., May 11. (AP)—Secretary of the Navy Charles F. Adams today boarded the U. S. S. Texas, flagship of the United States fleet, and prepared to view for the first time the most spectacular maneuver of the armada under his command— the forced firing of the Texas and eight other superdreadnaughts, accompanied by two airplane carriers, and a quartet of large V-type submarines and twenty-four destroyers.

The armada will steam out of the naval base here early tomorrow to descend upon an imaginary foe.

Each dreadnaught will hurl more than eight tons of steel and high explosives at targets during the forced firing.
