"There is not a better road of its type in the state of Arizona," declared State Engineer Tom Maddock with reference to a western portion of the highway which Pima county is building between Tucson and Ajo.
Forty miles of this road are completed and in fine shape, according to Maddock.
It is well surfaced and drained, and provided with a number of concrete dips.
In two weeks time the entire road, with the exception of 52 miles across the Papago Indian reservation will be improved, thus cutting the running time between Tucson and Ajo, a distance of 132 miles, to five hours by auto.
The new road will form an important portion of the route between Yuma and Tucson, thus opening up a new transcontinental pathway, which is destined to become popular with tourist travel, especially during the winter.
