Full Text

From the following letter which we find in the Peoria Democratic Press of last week, it will be seen that our senators in congress are not neglecting the interests of the canal.

SENATE CHAMBER, DEC. 26, 1843.

Dear Sir: On the meeting of the senate this morning, on calling for petitions my colleague, Gen. Semple, gave notice that he would on to-morrow, ask leave to introduce a bill to grant an additional quantity of land to complete the Illinois and Michigan canal.

I have strong hopes we may succeed in getting an additional grant. Gen. Semple takes great interest in it, as do all our delegation. I have talked with several senators from distant parts of the Union, who say to us, they will sustain the application.

Yours Respectfully,

SIDNEY BREESE.

J. S. ZEiGLER, Esq., Peoria.
