Speaking at Black Rock.

Black Rock. July 29.--Two thousand people attended the barbecue here today. On account of the rain the speaking was held at the theater. Hon. Clay Sloan was chairman and introduced H. H. Myers, the first speaker. Governor Davis followed with a rejoinder to Myers. Every inch of the ground was covered by the two gentlemen. Governor Davis and Mr. Myers were seated at the same table at dinner today, but refused to recognize each other, which caused much comment. Myers referred to this in his speech saying the governor refused to pass the compliments of the day with him. This was the talk of the day.

Myers referred to his Glenwood talk speech, the brick contract made with Dickinson and the alleged misappropriation of school funds under the Democratic administration. He also read a part of the governor's letter to President Roosevelt and spoke of the pardoning power.

Governor Davis paid his regards to Myers in strong terms, denouncing him as being no better than Powell Clayton, and referred to how Clayton ran the state while governor. He wanted Myers to join him in a telegram to the two committees to let Greaves speak. Governor Davis referred to the reforms brought about in the various institutions and discussed the new state house. He then referred to Myers as a Yankee who looked like a reward had been offered for him. The democrats went wild at this juncture. The only difference between Greaves and Myers was that Greaves was a decent fellow and would not be pulled around by Clayton, and Myers was the latter's tool, but was an insurgent four years ago. The governor read Myers' letter denouncing the Republican machine.

Greaves was introduced by Hon. Geo. Dent. A large crowd attended the insurgent rally, saying they would stay for the side show. Greaves' forces became enthusiastic when he began hitting the Clayton ring. He said he was as good a republican as Myers, and was not assisting the democrats, as charged by Myers. He denounced H. L. Remmel in strong terms and claimed Remmel got $500 a year from Henry M. Cooper. Mr. Greaves declared he could show up other things and appealed to all to help down Claytonism in Arkansas.
