In the morning of that day, the package was delivered by the Cashier of the Thompson Bank, in Thompson, Ct. to a gentleman who was going to Providence, to be by him delivered to Wm. J. King, cashier of the Union Bank, Providence. The gentleman who brought said package, says that a little before 9 o'clock on Monday evening, he delivered it at the door of Mr. King's house, in Providence, to a person whom he supposed, and who represented himself to be Mr. King, the cashier of the Union Bank, but who was not Mr. King, but a person who had, undoubtedly, placed himself at the door of Mr. King, for the purpose of purloining, or assisting in purloining, said package. The person who placed himself at the door is not known, but is represented as a tall, slim young man, dressed at the time in white pantaloons, dark coat and white hat. It was not known at the Bank that said package had been stolen until about 3 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon.
