On Saturday last, about three o'clock, his Danish Majesty arrived at Chatsworth, the seat of his Grace the Duke of Devonshire, where he was received by Lord Frederick and Lord George Cavendish. His Majesty expressed the greatest satisfaction at the water works, &c. and after dinner proceeded, by the way of Matlock, to Derby, where he lay on Saturday night. A prodigious number of people assembled at Matlock Bath to see the King pass, and it being dark his Majesty did not get out of his carriage, but had the condescension to suffer candles to be held up at each of the coach doors, that the company might pass in a line and have a full view of him.
Yesterday his Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester, his Grace the Duke of Ancaster, several of the Nobility, and Foreign Ministers, dined with his Danish Majesty at St. James's; and in the evening the King of Denmark supped with the Prussian Ambassador at his house in Clifford street, Burlington Gardens; after Supper there was a ball.
The King of Denmark's table at St. James's is at the expence of the King of Great Britain. Besides inferior ones, there are two principal tables; that of his Danish Majesty is noble; the dessert is elegant and superb; and the whole daily cost is estimated, we hear, at 84l. exclusive of wine, comprehending not the dinner alone, but every meal.
