Tom Trulock was acquitted in Hempstead circuit court of the charge of murder. Trulock was tried for the murder of Delia Walker, a negress, at the April term of court and found guilty, the jury assessing the death penalty. An appeal was taken to the supreme court, which reversed the decision of the lower court. The evidence against Trulock was all circumstantial, and he gained considerable sympathy by refusing to join other prisoners in an attack on the jailer while under sentence of death.
