At a banquet attended by about 125, including representatives from the Panama City, Marianna and Tallahassee Lions Clubs, the Chattahoochee Lion's Club was presented its charter by District Governor C. H. McNulty, of Melbourne.
The Chattahoochee club, sponsored by the Tallahassee Lions, was organized a few weeks ago with Earl Langley as president. Other officers are R. M. Cannington, first vice president; C. R. Park, second vice president; W. F. Johnson, third vice president; Rex Savage, secretary-treasurer; Harry Shepard, Lion Tamer, and Archie Whigham, tail twister; and the directors, G. D. Bradley, W. L. Byrd, Joe Lines and C. L. Parker.
In presenting the charter District Governor McNulty made a short address, giving the purpose of the Lions Club and instructing each officer in his duties and responsibilities, and praising the Chattahoochee Club for work already accomplished.
A program of music and entertainment and speaking, of good food and good fellowship, made it a short evening and a memorable one.
Pat Flynn, Tail Twister of the Tallahassee Club, got the banquet off to a hilarious start by fining several unsuspecting Lions for various offenses, and contributed to the fun all through the evening.
The Tallahassee Club presented President Earl Langley a cowbell to be used for a gong, which was unobtainable because of war conditions.
The banquet, which carried out the colors of Lions International, purple and gold, was held at the Woman's clubhouse and served by the Woman's Club and the Junior Woman's Club.
