Full Text
A long, very long, and melancholy list of American vessels, comprising ONE HUNDRED and THIRTY FOUR sail, which have been seized, sequestered, or sold in the ports of France, Spain, Holland, Italy, Naples, and other places under the iron scourge of BONAPARTE, has been published, on official authority ; but has not excited one emotion of indignation, or even blame in those thin-skinned would-be thought Patriots, who have pretended such an ardent regard for the sanctity of the American neutral flag ;—such a high-minded determination to vindicate the rights of their country to a free trade.—Such a sympathy for the discomfitures of American seamen, and the safety of American property ! ! No, not one aspiration of disgust or complaining has escaped their patriotic lips on this occasion—because they see the hand of NAPOLEON ordering the seizure, and signing the sequestration; and because it is their creed, that France can do no wrong.
