Aug. 12. The family of Mr. Fraine, of Chelsea, was distinguished for unfortunate incidents. The eldest son of this gentleman killed himself a few years ago in the Temple. His daughter, the late Mrs. F-e, had conceived an attachment for a gentleman of great ability and worth, who fully returned her regard; but the father was not of a nature to encourage any affections unconnected with pecuniary advantage; and as the lover had not a sufficient fortune, he refused his consent, and absolutely forced her into an union repugnant to all her desires. Her former lover, upon his disappointment, went to Jamaica, but, unable to conquer his passion, destroyed himself. The mistress of his affections hearing of his fatal testimony of regard, determined upon showing the same desperate fidelity; and after writing a letter to her husband, acknowledging his kindness, and lamenting her inability to reward it, she took the advantage of his absence, and shot herself at Richmond. The father, who was violently afflicted with an uncommon disorder that baffled all medical skill, applied to an empirick, at whose house a beam happened to fall on his head, fractured his skull, and he died soon after he returned to his house at Chelsea.
