Nebraska Chief Urges "Farming Freedom," Fighting Policy Seen
SALT LAKE CITY. Dec. 11. (UP) Gov. Dwight Griswold of Nebraska Saturday urged adoption by the Republican party of a six point post-war farm program, advocating freedom of production and an assurance of a return commensurate with the value of the farmers' products.
The proposed program was presented at the opening session of the second day of the "Save American Pow-Wow", called by 150 western state GOP leaders to prepare plans that they hope will result in a Republican victory in the 1944 elections.
Griswold's proposal was built up on principles of abundance, price equality, good husbandry, research, sound economy and individual initiative.

He added that acreage control "robs the farmer of his independent right to farm his ground the way he thinks it should be farmed."
Frank O. Horton, National Republican committeeman from Wyoming, condemned bureaucratic government control, saying "our own homes are not safe as long as our government is at it is today."
He particularly castigated federal government "land grabs."

the western states pow-wow here should be to outline a 'progressive, fighting" policy regarding agriculture, public lands, bureaucracy, mining and the livestock industries.
KELLAND SPEAKS
Earlier, Clarence Buddington Kelland, author and Republican leader, told the meeting he believes the nation needs 'a good man rather than a great man" as president.
He condemned as "unforgiveable" the administration's "destruction of the self respect of the American people."
Gov. John C. Vivian of Colorado said government bureaucracy was "illegal. unlawful, uneconomic and un-American."
