ford has a good runner in Womack and a fine passer in Kobus so the defense must be air-tight once again if the locals want to come home the victors.

East Hartford downed the Owls last year 14 to 8 in a mild upset so they must be more than ready to stymie Coach Ralph Worth's bid for revenge. In the long history of meetings between these two rivals the Hornets have only won twice with the other games ending in ties. Let's make it number three this Saturday.

Hornets 30 New Britain 14

The Hornets sent their two King bees. Dick Giardi and Jim Shea into the eye of the hurricane and found the big wind nothing but a wing and a prayer with passer Johnny Blair the wing and Gregorczyk the prayer as he went after the long bombs thrown by Blair.

Buried deep in their own territory early in the game after Bill Zdanis punt went to the two. Blair threw a home-run to Gregorczyk for a six pointer to open the scoring. In the second quarter Co-Captain Jim Shea on an end around maneuver scampered some sixty yards for the equalizer.

A fine pass from Giardi to end Johnny Yacavone completely fooled the defenders as Giardi faked a run to the right and tossed back to Yac all alone in the end zone for a two pointer and the Hornets went into the locker room up 8 to 6. Receiving the second half kickoff, the Hornets began to go immediately racking up three first downs but an intercepted pass halted matters and New Britain took over.

A series of penalties hurt the Hornets at this point. and enabled the Hurricanes to hold on to the ball. On the first play of the fourth period. Blair hit Gregorczyk once again for a TD and New Britain went head 14 to 8 as a pass to the same Greg from Blair accounted for the two point conversion.

From that point on it was all East Hartford. Giardi got 8. Giardi got 51, Giardi on the second play of the next series went into the end zone for six more and the Hornets led 16 to 14 as Giardi faked a hand off and hid the ball on his hip completely fooling the Hurricane defense.

After making the New Britain boys give up the ball. Giardi romped 20. Grilli went another 21 and Krukar went 27 to score again making the score 22 to 14. Once again the Hornets got the ball as Pat Dwyer intercepted. Krukar raced. Giardi ran and finally Dickie dove about five yards for the final marker in one of the best schoolboy games the crowd of over 6 thousand had even seen.

Eating Crow: Pat Bolduc. schoolboy sports writer of the Courant, must have an upset stomach this week after his steady diet of crow and humble pie. Pat has scoffed at the Hornets all season long and twice went on record as stating the Hornets were no match for the Hurricanes. Pat. to our knowledge has not seen the Hornets play all season with the exception of the Jamboree and we for the life of us can't see how he can make a selection under these circumstances.

Pat says his game is softball and I guess it must be.

Frank Kline of the Times picked it right, giving the Hornets a 2 point edge. We figured it to be about 14 to 6 East Hartford after hearing the scouting reports on the Hurricanes.

Bud Foran, after carefully observing both teams thought if New Britain had won it would not have indicated the strength of the teams. Bud figured the Hornets much stronger both on offense and defense.

Art Mulligan, former Colgate player liked the work of Bill Zdanis. especially his tremendous blocking and punting Want to go to Colgate. Billie?

The Dwyer boys Pat and Key were simply tremendous all afternoon. making tackle after tackle and some crucial blocks. Kev's tackle on that screen pass up the middle saved the day and gave the Hornets the ball. Pat's interception put the icing on the cake as New Britain were going desperation route. Pat ran it back like a regular halfback and with one more block could have gone all the way.

Gary Grilli contributed one fine run as he scampered 21 yards to set up a 27 yard touchdown run by Johnny Krukar who fooled the last defender with ease and walked into pay-dirt.

Jiggs Melody, local official thought this the finest football game he had even seen. Jiggs was overwhelmed with the fine work of the entire line and liked Stubby Dwyer especially It would be unfair to single out any one individual for special attention. This was a fine team effort and right down the line the team was great.

From center Saulding to the guards Holmes and Dwyer to the tackles Ekdahl and Lamp-rie to the ends Shea. Colosanto and Yacavone and throughout the entire backfield of Giardi. Zdanis. Moreau, Dwyer Krukar and Grilli the team was superb.
